The Brick Project
The Brick Project takes the form of an installation and aims to raise awareness for mental health. It also involves a shared investigation with architects into the aesthetic and practical potential of glass sculpted features in architecture.
The installation is built with glass bricks (a metaphor for our own fragile nature) as well as reclaimed bricks. With the perceived contrast between the fragile, transparent looking bricks and the heavy and sturdy reclaimed bricks Verholt invites her audience to examine the materiality and deeper meaning of the installation.
Also a therapist, she draws a relationship between her art practice and relevant socio-psychological topics. With the Brick Project Verholt raises awareness for mental health and explores 'vulnerability' and the ability to accept and recognise our fragile as well as resilient nature within our society.
